Can Meta Description impact Google rankings (up or down)

yes its effect on ranking but 20% not more if you have good content so you can get ranking with content not with description.

 

yes it does affect to not have. title, description, keywords, H1 tags and content. They all go together, you can still do great but will be harder and also search engines grab whatever data they want and use it as your description. This is very bad as people will see random things. I have seen descriptions on google of people that have not put descriptions stating copyright etc.

IF you Have good meta description people take more interest to visit you site

 

Search engines are becoming more and more sofisticated. So it compares meta description and content of your page and if it maches then it concludes that your page genuine and results in up rankings.

 

I think we are missing the point here people.

Search engine is not just about getting to the top of the SERPs it is about increasing your traffic from the search engines, a poor meta description and title will put people off clicking on your link in the search results, thus resulting in less traffic.

If you were ranked #2 in G results but had a poor title and description but results #3 & #4 have well structured titles and descriptions, they will steal some of your traffic. It is important in this way, but has no effect on where you rank in the SERPs!
