Google to Enter SEO Business Facebook to Follow

In late March 2010, rumors were swirling that search engine giant Google, Inc. was preparing to launch its own SEO (search engine optimization) firm. In early April, Google put an end to the rumors and unveiled a plan to open the SEO agency as early as May. Apparently, this project had been in the pipeline for quite some time and Google had done an excellent job of keeping it secret. In light of that, it is easy to believe that those March rumors were in fact Google manipulations, at least an attempt to test the waters before a formal announcement.

It would of been nice for the person that wrote the article to point out where Google said those things.

Good pointing out, green rep added. It would be better to provide some official statement source for a claim instead of just wrote something to attract without a proof.

...A sensationalist, unsourced, and most-likely-untrue article. If anyone cares to place a bet, I'm entirely confident that Google will offer no such service -- not this year, and not at any point within the next five.

It might be interesting if it had a source.

    Without one, it's just BS.

    Google will never do that.

It goes against their PPC model.

    This is bogus.

Look at the headline ... Facebook also entering SEO. Um, right. Not mentioned in the article.

Look at the writer and her credentials ... horrible misspellings and her main topic is about divorce.

Look at the writer's other articles ... a massively wide selection of bizarre topics.

This is so absurd I don't need to read the article to figure out it's a load of BS. Since Google wants editorial links only, how on earth could they do SEO for someone who came along and said they wanted to rank for the term viagra (or anything for that matter)? Would they blow the competition away by removing any sites already in the top 10? Would they place anchor text links on their own sites (imagine a viagra link in the footer of google.com - LOL). Maybe they'd ask Matt Cutts to do blog reviews.

Worse than this, if Google did optimise sites which didn't belong to them, everyone else would be able to reverse engineer their algorithm a lot more easily by examing exactly what Google did to optimise the site. Oh, and if Google did do SEO for some strange, self-destructive reason, I'd bet they wouldn't do linkwheels or profile links!

Matt Cutts responded to the rumor of a Google SEO company with this tweet...

The link is to an article which explains how everything got started - April Fools Joke 27 Days Later.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the link. Anyone who was foolish enough to believe this should probably shouldn't be doing any SEO for a living. As for the journalist, perhaps she should stick to subjects she is more familiar with.

If that's true then me buying Google in 5 days is true. Not sure if I'm going to write them a check or just send a truck load of cash.
