Will the social bookmarking buttons, which are placed on each blog post, negatively affect the search engine ranking result(say pr),thinking that they are external links from the site?..

suppose,i have put buttons for digg,yahoo,stumbleupon,google-buzz,tweetme,delicious ....will it treat as 6 external links per post?...
    Please help me out......

I do second on vagrant about this. There is nothing free really. However, if I remember correctly there is some plguins that make all outbound links on the page to be "nofollow". I will search and reply here again when I found it.

I use buttons with nofollow links... plugin Fixed Social buttons.
Even though there's no such thing as a free lunch I'm not going to give those social bookmarking websites links from every post on my blog.

You can try to put the script in your post template, and just hardcode nofollow them.

Use nofollow tag should resolve the problem.

I never really thought about the social bookmarking links on my blogs as having a negative effect but I guess your right...the more outbound links that are dofollow the more you are giving those same social bookmarking websites a free lunch...any word on the plugin that changes the links on your webpage to nofollow???

Adding no-follow does not solve the problem of reduced PR to pass to other internal pages.
Google splits the available PR between all of the links on the page.
no-follow just means the PR does not pass to the other site, but it still comes off the total available PR that can be passed to other links on the page.

from Matt Cutts article on PageRank sculpting June 15, 2009
so the article was posted June 2009 and said google made the change OVER a year ago... so pre 2008.
so lots of no-follow links still reduces the available PR that internal site links can pass.

I think you might want to use addthis AIO button on your sites for this purpose or you could nofollow it if you like. Some outbound links to relative authority sites would have positive impacts on our PR, too, IMO.

    Thanks,

SO is there really no way to use the addthis toolbar button without hurt the PR of your pages. Should I just handle these links internally, if I want to keep my PR?

I just added social bookmarks of my choice via addthis to my new template and made them no follow. My thoughts on this are simple. Yes, even with the nofollow I am passing on some PR to addthis. But, if I know my audience well and choose only service I know they use (StumbleUpon, Twitter etc.) I will get some good juice back in the long run. After a years time, it will probably be a break even. And from there on in, I probably getting more PR back than is going out.
