    It's unrelated.
Maybe you were logged into your google account when you saw yourself on the first page.

    a) It has nothing to do with submitting it to google webmaster - a drop is normal for a new site.
    b) Only 91 people search for that keyword phrase per month, globally. A #5 ranking would bring you about 2 - 3 visitors a month.

This is nothing to do with your registration. Just continue to build some quality links from Relevant and high PR sites. The more the number of backlinks, you will have higher chances to rank higher again in Google.

I'm not a seo expert so I'm only guessing - you added your site to gwt and Google realised that you were the new website owner (probably someone else had previously been marked as the owner) - Google therefore treats your site as a new site rather than giving your the serps benefit of an existing site.

I had something similar when I changed the keywords on my site - even though it had always been on my gwt.

I think Google dislikes webmasters buying sites to avoid the sandbox??

Above one already said well and I can confirm GWT has nothing to do with it. I would recommend you go and check your backlinks first. I assume you bought a new domain so I would recommend to be patient and do not expect a stable ranking in the first six months period. Your website may be going to filter period and need time and links to get them ranked well again.

Could be the case that your website has enjoyed a "Novice bonus" (whatever its called) first and then went directly into a sandbox. It will be back in a few months, just keep on working on the unique content and links from trusted websites

Yeah, new sites jump then G wants some time to assess them before unleashing them to the public.

My site was in the 'sandbox' for about 6 weeks, came back at #2 on G so just stick at it! Bring traffic in from other sources in the meantime, then when you get back on the big G you will have even better traffic! Jumped from 40-50UV a day to 250UV a day when i returned to the SERP's!

The time of 'getting back' heavily depends on the backlinks from trusted websites. I.e. getting a backlink from w3c or adobe most probably kick you out of sandbox immediately.

Submitting your site in google webmaster can never hurt your ranking, better to check other aspects.
