I've got a product site that quickly appeared on Google page 1, much to my surprise. For some stupid reason, I need to stop selling the product for maybe 3 months, so I'll stop link building. What would be the best tactics to regain my rankings quickly after relaunch? a. Leave the site as it is, see it slip away in the rankings and try to push it to the top again in 3 months. b. Take the site off-line and make a fresh start in 3 months. Curious to hear about your opinions or experience.
That could be a really bad for SEO practices. Why don't you just tell visitors for temporarily no available in your product page? It does make much more sense than stop doing any SEO just for this purpose. Your ranking may never come back since SEO is a continues process and need consistency into it.
If you replace your "Buy Now" button with "Sold Out" or something then it will have 0 effect on SEO and your site will maintain rankings. Just keep in mind that your competitors wont pause their link building campaign so if you stop building links then you will lose rankings.
I wouldn't do either. Keep up the work on the site, just put the sales on hold. When ready for relaunch, just pick up where you left off.
Why not put another product on it, like a clickbank product, amazon, etc. or just good information? Along with the sold out sign which was a terrific idea. Stephen C
This is the best way to approach this, however I would like to add a little spin to it. Instead of putting 'sold out' why not put a small opt in form to get notifications of when the product is avaiable? That way, when it is available again you can get instant targeted traffic which will convert like crazy
I'm not going to sell the competitor's products, that would benefit my wallet but hurt my pride Thanks for the good tips, everyone.
