Recently I got caught with my pants down. I didn't lose loads of money but I am a student so it was a lots for me. The Issue Do I let people on the forum know about the scam? Point one - more people will be aware of it, thus protecting themselves to a degree Point two - This forum has a lot of members, even taking the number of scammers on the site as a low percentage (and my belief is that its quite low - too much faith probably) then these potential scammers will now know a new scam to use on people. Well folks, its over to you now....discuss! Cheers Notting
Ok. I bought an ipod of ebay. It was a a reasonably good price so i went for it. Ipos never arrived but did manage to get insurance from ebay so I only lost about £35 - not too bad (still a bast***d though). That wasnt the end though. On the users (now banned) personal page he put a phone number to contact him on. I did (as I'm sure many others did - he was running a lot of ipod auctions). Then I got my mobile bill at the end of the month. Uh oh. The number he gave me to call him on (to sort out the "mix up") was a premium rate number. - He scammed me twice!! Cheeky fcuker!! Anyway - keep an eye out for people giving numbers for you to phone them on on the net. To make it even more difficult the number actually started 07033 so looked like a regular phone number. Watch out for phone numbers!! Useful sites: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/ communications regulator http://www.icstis.org.uk/ premium rate line regulator Jamie
EDIT: Oops, your first post's question is moot now. Grr, I wish vBulletin had the "a reply has been posted in the meantime" feature like SMF.
Not sure of your aware of this or not, but apparently if you speak bad about someone on DP - Even if they have scammed you - You will get in trouble with the mods. I know this because I recently got a warning infraction for "Harassing/Attacking Members", what did I do? Tried to make people aware.
