    You ought to brush after each meal but definitely before bedtime. If you don't then you're risking long term bone loss (periodontal disease) and gingivitis (gum infection) due to bacterial growth. Do you want to be toothless b4 40? And phew! the bad breath (halitosis) which is cured by using a tongue scraper each day?
