Best video editing software?

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to create an add-on to my e-book that will include workout footage (I sell a bodybuilding e-book) of myself training. I want to add music and piece everything together in a certain way...

What video editing software would you guys recommend?

    Thanks,

    Sean

    Cool, thanks dude.

Any feedback on programs you guys have used personally?

I just need something basic and straightforward. I've never done any video editing before but I'm sure I can pick it up fairly quickly... but what I want to create should be pretty basic, so I don't need an advanced program.

Best video editor is Pinnacle Studio, this is professional software... or try Sony Vegas, my second favorite editor :)

If you're a beginner, Windows Movie Maker would do just fine.

For more advanced, you can try Pinnacle Studio.

For expert, Sony Vegas is for you.

Personally I use Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas. ;)

    Hope that helps,

    Jack.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, MUCH better than 1.5, I made a couple of short videos with it http://www.heron-productions.com/movies.html - The first Singing Dog seems to be the best

I guess Windows Movie Maker is ok for basic editing too

If by "same" you mean they are both video editors, then yes. Two different pieces of software though.

Sony Vegas is less complicated than Adobe Premiere (that's what I think, anyway).

I haven't tried Premiere since it became "Pro" but I think Vegas is far better than Premiere on all fronts, especially rendering. I once rendered a 20 minute movie in Vegas in a mere 35 minutes ... Premiere would've taken over an hour. Sony is leaner and faster than Premiere, plus has featured support for special things like 5.1 surround and HD for years.

I tried Pinnacle Studio a few years ago and couldn't stand it at all.

THE best editor, hands down, is Avid. I only wish I had the money for a good Avid system, I wouldn't need anything ever again :p

But if you're on a tight budget, Sony Vegas is the way to go. If you've got a nice budget, Final Cut is even better.

I use Premiere but it may be a bit complicated for your needs - thing is - once you start you are going to want to do... (fill in the blank) and you may wish you had a real application. [DISCLAIMER: Link is to my store]

I've got several friends who use Apple's Final Cut (there are "Express" and "Pro" editions) and they think it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Windows Movie Maker is a free bundle, no? It seems to have come with my XP Pro. It is very very basic...

Keep an eye on the product's ability to encode (output) to high quality yet compact codecs and formats. Also think in terms of distribution - like via iTunes to the video iPod or to phones for viral promos.

Good luck - and expect it to take a while to render out your files - no matter the machine or software. If deadlines allow I try to do it overnight.

You can try shareware version of Ulead video studio. It is good and easy. And free. :)

For manipulation of completed material (choosing compression and codec, audio, size, etc) use Virtual Dub. It is freeware and very popular.

I have used Pinnacle Studio since Version 1 and It is very easy to use and now they have got to the latest version 10 Plus, it is a lot better. Still easy to use, but now it is certainly a lot more stable when rendering.

It is head and shoulders above anything else in the pricerange. If you have a lot more to spend (ie several to $10K+) then, you can do better.
