Thomas Jefferson, probably the most wise of our founding fathers, wrote “If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as the souls who live under tyranny. ”

Unfortunately, it's too late now. The United States has passed the tipping point towards tyranny.

The historical cycle seems to be: From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to apathy; from apathy to dependency; and from dependency back to bondage once more.

We've hit the apex of apathy to dependency and are approaching bondage.

(extra line breaks on above put in by me)

WOW - the above sums up completely something that I've been trying to articulate for the past three years.

My opinion - it's an erosion of values coming from the media. From "Reality" TV, from politicians, from sports figures - our kids look at this and see a lack of honesty and integrity. They think that selfishness is the norm, and that selfishness has resulted in an apathy for anything that doesn't affect them.

Mia, you should give proper attributions to your quotes...

Even if there is some disagreement about authorship.

You should hold your breath till you pass out.

I quoted it, paraphrased actually from someone else who posted it in a similar thread a while back.

Do you honestly think I was taking credit for it. I just happened to remember the quote, not its author.
    Get a life dude.

Given the lack of quotes or attribution, a reasonable person might so assume.

Actually no reasonable person "assumes" anything. :)
    Case in point ;)

    You are correct, I misspoke.

An intelligent person might infer as much, given the lack of quotes or attribution.

    Better?

Kinda hard to quote something that was not quoted to begin with. It was merely a reiteration of a previous point.

Here's another TJ quote I feel is related to healthcare ;)
"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. "
