I think that the problem with blogger is that you are relying on someone, big G, and placing your money properties in a free place is too risky, I think that for my valuable long time projects, self hosted wordpress is a better decision

Well, 2 things to consider is 1) quick setup 2) quick optimization

    On the 2 nd.
Self-hosted Wordpress blog if I am not mistaken is not going to get you on top too fast if you already have a main web site and it's the brand name, not keyphrase.

    Now, the problems:
    - young domain, not going to rank.
    - the main domain has not so many indexed content pages
    - main domain doesn't have enough backlinks
    - each page doesn't have enough links
    - getting new domains (keyphrases) is ok to drive traffic to the main page, but setting up blogs there is time consuming

From my understanding the advantage of Blogger, hubpages, Squido, ehow etc. is that your posts/articles will be ranked way faster because:

    - their domains are established.
    - their main domain has already millions of indexed content pages
    - main domain has dozens/hundreds of thousands of backlinks
    - each separate page backlinks are not that important (?)
    - setup of a new blog/article can be done in a minute

    How can those two compete?
Would love to hear some opinions on it...

Both are great platform for Blogging. Best of all, they are free. It doesn't cost a single dime to use them.

When I first started out, I use blogger, simply because I'm new at that time and doesn't have much option. Blogger has definitely go a long way. I remember when it was first released the template is limited and we are force to choose from that few standard templates for our site. Now, there are tons of blogger template that are available.

Having said that, Wordpress is still my best choice. It's very easy to customize Wordpress and the flexibility of their themes and plugins are my top reasons for choosing Wordpress. The plugins allows me to extend the functionality of my blog in a flash. It will take much, much longer to do do with HTML site.

It will be great for newbie too as Wordpress is so user-friendly to use. Furthermore, there are tons of courses on Wordpress that will guide you through the process of setting up a Wordpress site.
