Can you sell expensive stuff on Amazon?

Discussion in 'Amazon' started by clash, Mar 28, 2010.

I see people are selling books, DVDs and stuff.
Can anyone sell things like computers, TVs, I-phones and stuff like that? What is commission on this? Is it true that cookie lasts only 24 hours? People don't make a decision to buy PC or TV so fast. Or maybe it's possible?

    Is this working?

I can't say I have sold much expensive stuff like that, but I don't see why not. You're right though, you probably need to aim at buyers who are already pretty much decided on a particular model, are ready to buy and are just looking for the best deal. I think price comparison would work better there - that's something I am planning to write a script for, I think you are more likely to be successful if you say "Are you looking to buy a Panaphonics XYZ123? Find the best price here!" than if you say "Looking for a good Home Speculator? Buy the Panaphonics XYZ123! Then the 24 hour thing doesn't matter so much as they are already ready to buy.

I've been using it for books only.
Maybe it's time to try computers.
    Thanks for the idea.

The cookie is 24 hours, you heard it right.

You can sell anything if the buyer is really want it.
Most of my success product is about their hobby and thing that will really fix their problem.

Absolutely, you can sell really expensive products. In fact, I recently sold an Apple MacBook Pro which costs $2,135.00. But unfortunately the referral was 1.18%, earning me $25.00 (I wish it was 4%).

So that goes to show that you can sell just about anything as long as you're actively promoting those products.

    Good luck.

You can sell expensive goods, but the conversion is by far better with cheaper stuff. 10x $5 comission is the same as $50, so going for high price items doesn't mean you'll make more money overall. Since alot of people won't instantly buy something in the four digit range, I wouldn't concentrate on expensive stuff only.

If you want to sell expensive stuff, you're going to have to put a lot of work into it because people will want more details and information. I'm getting a decent conversion rate out of software packages that range in price from $60 to $180, and in the process I've stumbled onto a few more expensive sales when people bought stuff I didn't expect.

Getting 10 $5 commissions is in fact better than 1 $50 commission simply because more volume can put you into a higher commission tier.

My most expensive item promoted with Amazon is $14k+ - granted you will sell less than the $10 items, but it is a good day when I do make a sale ;)
