Simple .. bcoz PR is for each webpage , not "Single PR for a domain name..." but still you have PR5 in Login pg

The accompanying SERPS update appears to have been pretty bad for me. Yet my inner pages has PR like confetti. I have hundreds of pages with the same PR as my front page

its because of sub optimal internal link structure, thats making google feel that your other page is more powerful than your homepage.

you could be ranking better if you sorted out your site architecture.

for more help, try posting at a specialist SEO forum, like the one in my footer ....

It's strange that my blog is still PR0 after more than 3 updates. It's even listed in Google and Dmoz Directory and have lost of PR backlinks. Content is also frequently update.

Sound like something wrong somewhere, maybe penalized? This is not the PR obsession but I had similar experience when I removed the www. on one website. it went to 0 then back to 2 this update.

Looks like lots of people have improved their PR, a lot of directories have got their PR back (I know some never lost it), but this is generally good news as (most) people work hard to establish these.

Does your site have to exist for a certain time before it gets a PR or can you get one when the first update that comes along?

Our site decreased 1 PR, but i think we deserve it as long as we made a wrong advertising move.
From what I've seen it's very easy to get PR3 or even 4, but is very hard to keep through the next 2 or 3 updates.

Perhaps people build too many links, once they get a good PR they then add more and more links and it gets watered down somewhere.

It also can be related to your website's main content; if it's updated a lot with various subject, it may affect your PageRank... I also think they are slowly changing the ranking algorithm and it may affect our ranking.

I agree with you both and I think that Google tries to enhance a "perfect" PR algorithm, which is basically almost impossible, so maybe that's why they are keep changing the formula.
Adding a lot of backlinks from high PR sites is good, but also if you have links towards "banned" ones, this could decrease your PR faster than you believe.
So my guess is: bad/spam sites decrease faster your site, than good/healthy sites can increase it.

Riversway> I am a newbie. You mean if the PR is high enough, we should stop building backlinks?? How many backlinks we should build??

Im pretty happy with this update overall , my webmaster forum got PR5 and only had one drop. Not that PR matters but its always nice to see you are building good links
