Yahoo Traffic Surge - Holy Cow!

    Hi Everyone

I need help tracking what caused a traffic surge to my site (BestWeddingDances.com) on Sunday March 28... I was averaging about 4,000 visitors per month.. on Sunday I had a traffic surge from Yahoo... Some of the surge pushed over into Monday, but my traffic is back to normal now... Google analytics is showing the traffic surge coming directly from the yahoo:

Sources- yahoo (organic) Visits- 3,280 % visits- 86.04%

    Keyword: best wedding dances

I don't know what caused this, but it was an amazing day, revenue increased as the traffic increased... it really opened my eyes to the potential traffic I can get and money I could make... my site is less than one year old

I was thinking maybe I got mentioned on some site but not linked to, that's why people searched yahoo for "best wedding dances"...

Anyone who has experience with traffic surges?? How can I find out what caused this traffic surge?

    Thanks for the Help!

Can you not see on your cpanel or wherever you are looking at traffic stats the exact urls of where the traffic came from? I'd double check that again as I can usually see that and click the link to give me a better idea.

With Google Analytics you can see which source is refering traffic, but of course it will not tell you about this traffic only traffic once you install it.

Did you do something that might have only stayed in Yahoo results for a short time - like a news article - perhaps track back what posts you added on that day or facebook, twitter, youtube etc if you can work out what you did - possibly a certain combination of words/ phrase.

Worth spending time on if you can crack it and repeat the magic, so to speak

You wont usually know why people type in keywords but install a Google Analytics then you should be able to tell where they come from.

The last yahoo Update was announced on April 21st. They are extremely consistent in announcing monthly updates. We should be seeing a big dip in traffic for the holidays (informational site) and instead we're seeing a big increase starting around 15:00 eastern time.

It makes sense to me that they might be updating over the long weekend. I'm sure our rankings will be jumping around.

So is google analytics the best thing out there, or are there other good options?
