How to redirect http://xyz.com to http://www.xyz.com within safe SEO

Hello friends!
I need your valuable guidance to redirect safely my site to www. format

I have http://www.sportsstatsblog.com

Whenever I type only http://sportsstatsblog.com then it remains same and whenever I type http://www.sportsstatsblog.com it also remains same.

So I need to redirect safely my http://sportsstatsblog.com to http://www.sportsstatsblog.com.

Please guide me.
I got this problem when I analysed my site with SEO tool. It says something 303 method. But I don't know anything. My site is based on Joomla 1.5

Put this in your .htaccess file

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Problem solved! thumbs up to brad proctor, however I was about to tell you the same. It is 301 type of redirect and same.

I was just cheking google indexed pages site:www.sportsstatsblog.com here where I got to know that the links indexed are of my old blog which was in wordpress. after clicking on links it's showing 404 error. Now I am on joomla so I want to redirect that specific link to the current link by same method. Is it possible? I tried with same method but didn't worked! Any changes there in this redirection?
