    Is the parked .com on the first page for your search term? Either way I would get the .net before I find it and get it.

    It all things are equal in terms of content, backlinks etc, then the .com wins out due to alphabetical sorting (final tiebreaker if you like). As each url is unique then no 2 urls can rank the same alphabetically.

    Puremonopoly provided a good analogy of perceived value, especially as far as webmasters are concerned.
