Actually, googling 'george bush racist' fails to bring up credible sources on the first page. You need to get out more...

Ooooo, that must make your commentary sources that discuss the idea of California being a failed state legitimate and credible proof. The funny thing is, this discussion is completely tangential to the original point which you were making, and I agreed with. I suspect that either you just like to argue, or you are still holding a grudge over the schooling you got from me on your lunacy regarding eliminating jail terms for criminals.

Either way, your point is useless. California remains the largest economy in the US, and the eighth largest economy worldwide. Our debt to GDP ratio is nowhere near anything like Greece, and our biggest problem revolves around some enormous long term liabilities someone voted into law 10 years ago that are now severely hampering our ability to expand, or even maintain many of the very bloated services our government offers. Everyone wants to blame Arnold, but the name they should be attaching to this mess is Gray Davis.

Likewise, I have no idea who will be president of the USA in 2018, but he will be getting the same crap, even though the proper name to associate would be Barack Obama. The federal govt. will be in exactly the same position at that point and, rather than cutting services like California currently has to, they will just print more money. By the way, it is worthy of noting that most of the health care stocks are up today on news of the passage of this "Insurance Reform" bill. Anyone want to take a guess why?

    - Obama's Health Care Reform Bill Passed

Has anyone noticed....and without a single Republican, 30+ no votes from Democrats and decidedly consetrvative in nature - Pelosi, the master politician.

More socialism and entitlement. So what else is new. If I were a democrat, I'd be killing myself right now.

Nah, it just points out the inanity of saying credible commentators appear on a search for 'george bush racist' while credible commentators (from all over the political spectrum) do appear when searching for information about CA being perilously close to becoming a failed State. An intelligent person can draw their own conclusions.

Had completely forgotten that, although it seems you have conveniently redefined that discussion - which was actually about the efficacy of long prison terms, and the underlying purpose of incarceration in general.

    Perhaps not entirely tangential though...

And Bolivia is the 8th largest economy in South America - measured by GDP. Perhaps GDP alone is not a fair measure of societal success or failure...

8th out of 12 in South America. Were you really trying to base some sort of argument on that? If so, please be so kind as to explain it to me because it is not obvious.

Let me repeat it for you again. CA is the largest economy in the US and eighth on the PLANET. Even if GDP alone were not a fair measure of societal success or failure, it certainly goes a long way to your ridiculous "Failed State" lunacy. You were doing better with your call to Free the Felons. It gives me a business idea. I'd bet you "Free Manson" shirts would sell like hotcakes!

    OOOOOH!

    I KNOW! I KNOW! :)

It's because of the new legislation the U.S. government is now going to take our tax money and shovel it with both hands into the joyful arms of the heath care insurers! Who will still do their very best to take in as much money as is godly possible, and in the future lobby to change the laws every year to take in even more and more and more money from the government, while furiously working behind the scenes to give out as little health care as the law allows!

And, if a candidate running for office or reelection tries to limit the amount of money flowing like a raging flood from the government to health care insurers, the health care lobby will purchase expensive attack ads with their virtually unlimited funds to prevent any candidate that wants to slow their guaranteed lifetime incomes from ever getting into office!

Of course, health care insurers won't work behind the scenes to reduce market competition by standardizing high prices to keep their share of the pie stable. That would be wrong. Only oil companies are allowed to do that. And cigarette companies. And other billion-dollar industries with uber-expansive lobbyists and virtually unlimited funds :D

I think it would save a lot of time if we just emptied out all the Democrats in Congress and let lobbyists sit in their seats.

Well, you have that enshrined by the "right wing 5" Supreme Court justices that are hell bent against precedent not of their liking rather than precedent for value over time....Those 5 are waiting at the end of the tunnel on mandatory enrollment - oh by the Federal gov't as opposed to State that would suit their interests as well.

This is obviously the opposite of reality especially the Senate version passing over the House's legislation that was the more liberal pro consumer that in time will be resurrected in light of further debate and reconciliation by a more enlightened electorate due to the present accomplishment.

I was going to say, "Because the federal govt. just legislated 32 million new, mostly younger and healthy customers for them". Your answer is equally applicable.

There are no alternatives now. Millions of Americans just lost one more small piece of their freedom of choice.

Welcome my friends; welcome to the machine.

Who needs choice when we have the "greater good" to think about. Personally, I think this legislation will increase choice via the exchange, but the choice not to purchase has been taken away. I wish I could get the govt. to legislate mandatory purchase of whatever product I decided to sell.

    Oooh! Quoting Pink Floyd!

Now that song is playing in my head...

Big-time Pink Floyd fan here - I saw them perform The Wall in concert at Nassau Coliseum circa 1978.

With the U.S. government moving sharply towards an "everything not specifically disallowed is mandated" model of governance, you may get your chance. :p

As a citizen and as a small business owner I am taking my stand. I will not be participating in the socialist reforms with regard to health care. Come and get me!!! Seems the majority of Americans out there agree. Join me and telling these clowns that we will not be participating in this "big fucking deal!"

Is everyone missing the point? ---> Fixing a problem is better than living with a problem. There will be many changes and with the midterms and legitimate debate hopefully the legislation will be improved.

Why was I paying the same premium as everyone else after Blue Cross included a rider policy excluding my back for coverage after a few visits to the chiropractor for leg pains not to mention the lack of coverage - the rider stipulated for any reason such as a back injury caused by an auto accident not related whatsoever to the chiropractor - Maybe they are the ones out of luck now after appropriate legislation.
