Thanks Nintendo!

Yesterday I had really low water pressure at my house. I tried changing the water filters, adjusting the pump rate, and even snaking the line. No increase in pressure. I heard a buzzing from the water softener, and noticed it kept pumping out water out the discharge pipe.

I walked up and hit the thing with a hammer and the buzzing stopped and water pressure returned. Thank you to Nintendo for teaching me that hitting things sometimes makes them work better.

Do you guys have anything that seems to work better the more you abuse it?

Ironically, my best example of something that worked better from hitting it a few times, was my original Nintendo. NES. One day was trying to get it working, something wasn't right... while checking the cables in the back and moving the tv around to get to them....
I dropped an old 1970's-80's 20-something inch TV that must have weighed 50lbs on it, tv took an extra 15 seconds to turn on after that, but the Nintendo worked like a charm, and the cracks in the plastic made no adverse effect.
Some weeks later, it got accidentally buried on the floor under some clothes, and full force stepped on and wobbled around at the surprise of something under-foot.
    Still worked fine.

I know I've run into many situations where hitting things has helped, one common one is a failing starter solenoid. Hit that sucker with a hammer till she starts, works every time.

I remember my old CRT monitor, it wouldn't turn on unless you punched it or something. Eventually it stopped working, maybe because all the hitting and such.

Yeah I had one that did that. After the repeated hitting resulted in final breakdown, I decided to take er apart, my first monitor surgery. That time, turned out it was a loose switch, it had been like that since like just after warranty was up, turned out they never fastened the switch to the board, so every time you used the switch, it was bending the circuit back a bit more... I put the switch back into place and jimmied it for some extended use, didn't last too much longer though.

My First ever NES System had a old flip flop holding down the Cartridge Tray and a few cracks on the cover and it worked perfectly.

I have had problems with my Xbox360 not wanting to read disks and I have found that hitting it worked, until I got the 3 rings of death. :(

Maybe hitting an eletrical device retouches the wires so to speak.

I still have a NES system and it works like a charm. Some of the games I have don't want to work sometimes because the contacts on the cartridge are corroded, but the system itself takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I think I'll never get tired of playing Punch Out. :)

lol.. I wish I still had an NES. I picked up a broken N64 and games for free, but haven't found an NES yet. Wish I never sold it to that girl back in high school that really wanted it, and never ended up paying me for it! What a waste. Sigh.

The NES system I have isn't my original one. I picked it up on Ebay about 8 years ago. That really sucks you never got paid for yours. Was it a girl you liked or something?

Here's a good little video on how to clean your carts.

I just bought a new replacement 72 pin connector for my NES, probably not a bad investment if you plan on keeping your NES going well into the 21st century :)

I've tried to clean the contacts on the bad games before, but it didn't do any good. I think the games were possibly cheap knockoffs, because they used a cheap tin-like metal for the contacts. Fortunately, the few that are like that are games I really don't care much about.
