    According to me, Article submissions & Social Bookmarking are the easiest methods to get more backlinks rather than other approaches like blog comments.

    Also, don't forget about traditional PR methods applied to online news sites - build a connection with media outlets like newspapers, magazines, newsletters, etc and try to get them to write about your site (including a link in the online article)

    Fastest way - mass blog/forum commenting/posting. But, is not advisable.

    It's best to start of by submitting to high pr web directories., social bookmarking, relevant blog commenting, unique articles submitting to high pr directories, video submission, and of course do some guest posting on niche related blogs if your info is worth sharing with others.

    When you do SEO, it's the consistency that matters. Make a plan and stick to it. Some good ways to get backlinks are: Write articles and submit them to article directories. Do social bookmarking. Blog Commenting.

    If you want traffic, do blog commenting. A lot of it.
    If you want to increase your PR and build the keyword to your site, you should look for dofollow blogs to comment. I think, there are still a lot of blogs with the top commentator plugins with dofollow.
