What is best for SEO? Content or links?

I appreciate Magda's reply...Never think that by making backlinks make the website on the top...

Yes it is possible to get page 1 ranking using content alone (even without links). I have seen this in a couple of sites. You need quality relevant content to be on the first page though.

 

As others have said...you need updated content, backlinks, internal links & good user experience for best ranking. Some sites with less of one or the other 'might' fare well if the niche isn't very competitive but generally speaking a combination of all is best. If you don't analyze your competition, it's a good idea to to see how many links they have, etc.

 

Always update your website with unique and useful contents and build backlinks for your site. These two are both used in grading your site. Google also used your backlinks to grade the popularity of your website.

 

Cant say directly proportional to each other as it not physics or mathematics but yes they both have different roles in their terms.
If you creating link so offcorse you have to put some content if you will not than how some will know about your site.

Sweetheart, I don't have time for these kind of silly challenges, I'm too busy getting my clients on the front page. I work on troubleshooting for big brand names, who through neglect aren't in the top spot for their own brand name because that spot is taken by a review site or something similar. Because the review site got backlinks, and the official site didn't.

In the case of Content vs. Links, the verdict is simple. Both are important but content needs to come first and be useful. Links come after useful content and they need to be from relevant web sites.

 

Good to see some posts arguing that content alone can get high google SERs. That said, most answers have not bothered to answer the question - which is best content or links - but go off on how important BOTH are. Der! What is it with DP posters who cannot stick to the point of this or any other thread?

 

its good to play with brand name sites..But dont go After review sites...And dont think they are ranking only because of Backlinks..And everyone is busy with there works....

Very misleading.

You can get to page one with no backlinks and very good on page optimization *IF* the key phrase has very little competition.

For very competitive phrases, you cannot get to the first page of Google without backlinks.

 

Backlinks rule Google... A one page site can rank on page one if it has quality backlinks

 

quality content and backlinks are great. same thing with me, having hard time dealing with page rank

 

yeah of course competition does matter, competitive key phrase cannot be taken down without backlink, but i really saw the result and it's not about very little competition that my mentor gets rank for!!! maybe you can't rank for keyword that my mentor's website target..

 

I would say links are more important.

 

Yeah if your content is good people will link to your content. I follow both good content and some links.
