Google's SERPs are constantly fluctuating for MANY reasons. Can this be one...sure, but I bet it isn't the biggest factor.

Since blogs represent a large part of the content on the internet, it will be difficult for Google to ignore them but getting a link from a spammy blog has always been of low value. If your link is on a page with 10 blog posts and each post has 3 outgoing links and there are 30 other links in the blogroll, the worth of your link is pretty low.

I think Google is in the middle of rolling out caffeine.

Good point mcrest... I think it's time we stop leaving comments for the sake of links. It has always kept me wondering why google and other search engines care about links from blog comments with hundreds of outbound links.

Just hold on. SEO is not a thing that you can finish in one day. You should keep moving and do more.

Very well said, this is the thread which has to be displayed in the first top 20 threads under the section of Google, as I see all the threads, since last two-three weeks with the same questions asked ?

I would help to get this thread highlighted in this section so many of our DP friends might be able to understand the issues..
