Thanks. Thats really useful. I would prefer if it php because I suspect that Google doesnt see the content. Does anyone know?
In addition to disseminating news items, RSS/Atom feeds can be used to announce page updates and new content additions for web sites. Feeds may lead to increased visitation and page loads. Of course, feed availability must be prominently advertised on the site -- probably most appropriately on the Home Page. This Web Author RSS Tutorial is an excellent overview of RSS/Atom that will answer most basic questions. Google Feed 101 is also an excellent reference. Google acquired FeedBurner and is now promoting RSS feeds for disseminating updated Web Page content. James
Will this method also help a publisher who places RSS feeds on their site get better search engine rankings and their pages indexed, as if it were their content? Shawn Drewry, CEO of DrewryNewsNetwork
With 5% of the population having their js switched off, is there another way of doing this, but without needing js in any way ?
Thank you for the information and link. I just tested this and noticed that all links within the feed are redirected to the respective site within the same browser. Is there any way to open links in the feed in a new browser so that visitors to the original site are not lost? Whilst this tip will do for now, from my understanding, google will not see this content because it's js. Does anyone else know of an alternate solution that allows the content in the feeds to be searched and found in the new site by google?
I am delighted to see your post, and am hoping that you may be able to help me. Our group has its own, very simple, beginnerish web-site at http://www.tedworthpc.co.uk/. The group wants to have a scrolling ticker-tape type of streamer or similar on the home-page that will provide the latest news-items -- news about the group, I mean, not about the world at large. I manage the site, and until recently achieved the desired result via a 'Marquee' streamer on the home-page. That had the disadvantage that I was responsible for inserting whatever text the group asked me to insert, and I want to avoid that at all costs. Question: Is it possible to achieve what the group wants by placing an RSS-streamer or similar on the home page, the feed for which can be controlled by nominated members of the group without reference to me ? If so, how could the members of the group provide the feed, bearing in mind that their level of competence will be very, very low ? I shall be very grateful for any help, and I am so impressed by your post.
