How useful is social bookmarking?

And what's the best way to do it?

 

I use Digg and SU. Social BM sites really don't help that much unless you get a crowd of ppl that has the same interests that you have - then you can get referral traffic.

Digg and SU visitors generally don't stay on one discovered website for long however it is great source of free traffic and SEO.

1) Same rule as in forums: don't just join these networks and immediately publish your links. Most people in these networks can immediately tell when you're "pimping" your links, and most people will greatly dislike it. This will harm your site and your reputation, and may also result in a user ban or (even worse) a domain ban! The right way is to join such a community (be it Reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon, or whatever), start submitting quality links (NOT your own), building your network of friends, then submitting one or two of your BEST articles.
