    Hi there,

Just wondered what the general opinion was in regards to directory submissions? Any value, also is it only worth joining those with high PR to see SEO improvements?

In thesedays,, Yahoo is still based on Directory Backlinks, the more directory backlinks you will have the more you can get increased your yahoo SERP, Google is changing their algorithms periodically, so it will not give that much importance there.. BUT still directory submission has its own place in Link Building

If your submitted to directories that are relevant to your websites subject, then its a valuable strategy. Submitting to generic directories is still useful, but on a lower scale. Don't get me wrong, a link is a link, but relevancy plays a key role on the quality of the link.

If you look at my site below, you will see that i got about 50 backlinks from one directory. There are still some good directories out there and they are worth checking out. Yahoo directory is another good one; it is a paid directory but getting a link there will not get you penalized. In fact, it will greatly improve your site ranking.

Of course, directory submissions does magic over time. But the rate of submissions should be checked. I mean to say - slow and steady growth of links would fetch good results.

Submitting to directories with high PR is definitely worth it to get the backlink from it.

The directory itself generates very little useful traffic. This is due to the fact that the amount of people that actually use the directory is dismal.

Article directories are brilliant for Google. They make linkbuilders believe they are getting a relevant content/anchor driven link. when really Google detects these domains with article scripts on them ether two ways.

    1.By the script coding layout
    2.the categories covered

you'll see improvements for your SERP and PR, but dont expect much direct traffic from the directories themselves.

I suspect, as I mentioned on another thread a few days ago, that most links we submit to directories are never place. We submit our link, as countless others are doing, get the auto-responder message and the link is lost in the crowd and likely never added.

unless it's yahoo, bing, google, or dmoz, direct submissions have not done a thing for me. basically have just been a complete waste of time.
