Hi All, I'm considering switching my blog over to DoFollow comments to be fair to anyone who takes the time to write something in. I know that there are plugins that do this however I'm not sure if there is any penalty or disadvantage that you receive for enabling this? Does your own SEO take a hit? Love opinions as always
It all depends on who your target audience is. If you write a blog that caters to webmasters or other internet professionals that may have their own website, then I would say that you should make it do-follow. However, if that is not your average reader, then the only thing do follow will do for you is attract every noob webmaster looking to pick up a back link by leaving stupid comments like, "Nice Post" "I was looking for information on this and you have provided it. Thanks I have bookmarked your site" "I need more thought on this before I make up my mind" "Hi that is a very fascinating view, It does give one food for thought" "When I found this was like wow. Thank you for putting your effort in publishing this post." Comments like this are all from webmasters. How do I know that all of these are spam comments? Because I have a few blogs and I see the same BS comments on all of them...many times even from the same people. It's not all bad, there is nothing wrong with leaving the comments, some people actually take the time to write something that compliments the blog and that makes you look good in the eyes of regular people, who by the way, have no idea what a back-link is and could care less and will leave comments either way. Just be wary of the drive by pharmaceuticals, online casino, warez and illegal download sites trying to piggyback a link on your hard work.
