Directory PR is dropping

Discussion in 'Directories' started by Rod, Mar 8, 2010.

On September 21 these web directories were posted as being PR 6 or above:

    www.dmoz.org 8
    www.lii.org/ 9
    www.somuch.com 5
    www.skoobe.biz/ 5
    www.netinsert.com 4
    www.jayde.com 4
    www.info-listings.com 4
    www.gimpsy.com 5
    www.geniusfind.com/ 6
    www.ezilon.com 6
    www.exactseek.com 3
    www.clickey.com 5
    www.canlinks.net 5
    www.buzzle.com 5
    www.businessseek.biz 4
    www.abilogic.com 3
    www.123kidzarea.com 5
    www.bdcconcepts.com/directory 0
    www.epooch.com 3
    www.search4i.com 3
    www.busybits.com/ 3
    www.zensearch.com/ 3
    www.dramba.com 3

The number following the directory URL is the current PR (8 March 2010).

Apart from the first two directories and these two:
    www.geniusfind.com/
    www.ezilon.com

the other 10 directories have suffered PR drops of from 1 to 5 points.

There are thousands of directories, and this is nothing but a sample, but it raises interesting questions.

Your sample is much too small to use for any useful conclusions. Although it is not perfect, here is a history of PageRank statistics from our database of 16,000 directories http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1692588 There has been no decrease in PR in the last couple of years.

I don't think sample size matters as much when you consider how much they have dropped in PR.

Correction. It was not 10 that dropped in PR it was 19 (out of 23). And there was only one PR update in the period.

I might add that my main directory goes up a point and down a point in PR with each PR revision, so I understand that PR is dynamic - as it should be.

But I was surprised that seven of the directories (one-third of the total) dropped three points in one the revision.

PR goes up and down, it’s no big deal.

I have seen that PR is much harder to keep on all niches, not just directories.

    Thanks Brian

I dont think this means anything; besides emphasis should not be on PR too much.

It can happen, there is nothing to worry about it, because Google Tool Bar PR keep remain changing, in this update it dropped, in next update it can be increased, if they will work on it. Main thing is the Search Engine Index Ranking, if it drops then it is a worry. But thanks for this information!!

I had PR 4 last year PR 3 this year, has the quality of my directory gone down, i think not,.... i think various other directories have had similar effect, PR is just one factor where websites/ directories are concerned, look into other factors as well...

A nice update list, thanks for sharing! In .com directory aren`t seen too well by google, but in .ro (romania) submitting to directories is still working great.
