I read somewhere sometime ago that sub.domain.com will index higher than domain.com/sub. any expert here to comment?
sub.domain.com is treated by Google as a brand new domain that has nothing to do with domain.com. Domain.com/sum is on the other hand connected to the domain.com so it actually benefits form it. I never go with subdomains, I rather buy a new domain.
thank you for ur insight. if i have to use a sub.domain.com, it is better to redirect sub.domain.com to domain.com/sub. doing so will also increase my google analytics counts on domain.com instead of splitting the counts between sub.domain.com and domain.com? am i right? how about Alexa ranking? same theory too?
To add on to what dominik79 said; backlinks for sub.domain.com are held separate to domain.com - along with ranking in search engines. Alexa Ranking remains the same, as it's still a part of domain.com - however it's like starting a brand new website, but I guess with slightly more authority.
I think that adding the sub-domain to the front is much better compared to the end of the domain. If you want to add a new category, then use the /sub/ one. Yugo,
it seem like domain.com/sub is better than SEO? and sub.domain.com look more authoritative and presentable. my idea is redirect sub.domain.com to domain.com. this way, i have the best of both. what do u guys suggest?
If the website is very big then sub domains will good to have a set of category. Google will handle sub domain as a different website for small website that is not advisable.
domain.com/sub is the better bcz if you do this type sub.domain.com/ so this domain is totally different to main domain means its not join with main main so in popularity, PR and backlink you got very less. but if you use domain.com/sub this so you can get esily result in sort time. if you site have to many pages like 2000 or 5000 so use sub domain wise its better like portal site
Thank you for all the wisdom! my new policy is, i will redirect sub.domain.com to domain.com/sub. in this way i have the best of both world, a neat url for backlink and better seo. is this a good move?
sub.domain.com or domain.com/sub is the same to search engine. Each page is "a page" with content that is indexed. To humans, its different. Most are more familiar with "domain.com/sub" conclusion: No difference to robots.
