Hi, I'm in the process of launching a new web service and would appreciate 10 seconds of your time to help test it. It's a web based poll with a unique spin. You will see what the spin is once you place your vote. Trust me, this isn't your usual online poll! Simply go to the following url and place your vote on the following question: What is your FAVORITE social network? http://www.geocharts.com/direct-link-viewpoll.php?qid=546 Let me know what you think? Also, let me know if I forgot any social networks. This is Beta, so please be gentle. Currently it is in closed Beta but I am accepting Beta Testers just for today. Just sign-up at http://www.geocharts.com/sign-up.php Beta testers that sign-up will be rewarded for their efforts when the site finally launches. Thanks for helping!
It didn't seem to add me onto the map at the end I voted for something different than the only other 1 vote too
oh. I guess you are from the UK, right? What was your vote for? Facebook? Looking into why it didn't put you on the map...
Well that's been fixed. UK votes are now registering on the map! Can anyone else from the UK (or anywhere else) try please?
Good point. I can't change a poll after it has started though in order to keep it fair. I'll keep that in mind for next time though. Maybe just choose your least hated site then. lol
You are thinking outside of the box. Good job! At least it is something unique. I don't know if people will actually pay for it though. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't see any real revenue generating value here. I might be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time, but I have been around the internet since before many knew there was one The business model that this might fit under is getting bought out by one of these social networks. The issue is that if it has a revenue model already in place then when they buy you out you will only get what they calculate it to be worth based on what you have earned already. How that is supposed to work is that IF you are wildly popular and viral, but you have no revenue model attached, then they estimate a value based on some number they pull out of their hat. That number is usually fictitious and way out of line. The example (poster child) for that is a site like YouTube. No revenue stream but they cashed out to Google with some insane numbers. Today, many of these companies are a lot wiser about that sort of purchase, but that is not to say that you could not cash out beyond your wildest dreams. The problem is creating that viral following. So... You can think small and attempt to eek out a few paying "customers", or you can shoot for the stars and see if someone like Twitter or Facebook picks up on it. Just a thought.
Thanks for your comments. Very much appreciated. At this point I'm just focused on polishing the website up, fixing bugs and making a better user experience. The sites in Beta and the release version will have some very cool and innovative features. (beyond what is already there) You raise some great points and it sounds like you would try to go viral before attaching a revenue model to it. I would be happy with a slow steady viral effect. One thing that works in the sites favor is that when people use the poll on their sites, a link back to the main page is unobtrusively placed in the bottom right corner. People are always looking for unique content for their sites and this will help give them some with minimal work on their part. For now, I have no plans of charging for anything but I have already had some inquiries from companies on purchasing plans with a higher limit than the Beta provides.
