What is best for SEO? Content or links?

My new website is on page 1 for its keyword after about 4 weeks. It made page 2 after 2 weeks. I added new content and posted links.

Could I have achieved page 1 without links? Is content alone enough?

Posting links gets really boring...

 

I think You must find more backlink to get page 1..find high backlink and do follow..

 

Create Unique contents and build quality backlinks.

 

Gas + Car = Travel.

No Gas = No Travel
No Car = No Travel

Both content and links.

 

Both content and links are required for a website to rank well in Google. If you have good content and have done your on page optimization well you can expect to rank well in yahoo and bing, but google takes into account backlinks more.

 

make good inter linking also do forum posting, comment posting and article its very helpful for you

 

Both are required thing in seo but you need Back links to stay on #1 position but if you have unique and keyword rich content than its make your target easy always keep in mind that "CONTENT IS KING"

Both are essential. If you are constantly updating your blog at regular interval then you will see that your new pages are indexed within no time.
Below in my signature is a site about trading, I have been updating the site regularly ( It is not on the top as I am not good in SEO ) but what I have seen so far is that as I added quality content daily to my blog, now I can see new pages indexing in google within 1 minute. Yes, you heard it right, ONE MINUTE.
The reason why it is not in top 10 or 20 is that I never used any SEO approach before like keywords, SEO optimized theme and backlinks. Lately, I was found that quality content alone can not do some magic. Then, I started creating backlinks and voila! it was in top 200 ( First my site wasn't even in top 400 , hahaha )
after a few days, it was on number 60. I am just hoping to see the site in top 10 in next one month ( Lack of time to devote on the site and I am not experienced as well, so this is a hurdle for me, but I hope things will get better as I explore more)
So, in one line I would say: Both are essential.

 

What is your website URL and do it have keywords in its domain ? The reason is simple as keywords in domain is best to get ranked without getting backlinks and all...

 

There are many factors that must be kept in mind if you want to get ranked in the top positions. Keywords in domain, competition, your site's structure ( dynamic or static) and a few more factors. Keep on adding content and keep on creating backlinks ( but at a steady pace, don't overdo it one or two days )

Make sure that you have good number of back links from different blogs/websites under your niche

 

you can't rank well without Unique and relevant content. and you certainly cannot compete with other websites without enough backlinks. Content and links are very important.

but ofcourse when we're talking about OFFpage vs Onpage optimazation..

As far as I know, Good content is a necessity to index your site with Google. If they love your content, they will index you automatically. Ask me, I have indexed my site within 2 days. But, for traffic, visibility is important. For that, link building is a must as well. That is no doubt a boring job at core, but stay focused or hire anyone to do it for you. Both are important and cannot be stopped altogether. By the way, if you index your site and your domain name matches exactly with the keyword you are working on, you will be on page one without much link building.

 

Both are so much important for the promotion of websites but i prefer content instead of links because it is some thing which have a really solid effect on the website traffic.

Quite simply Yes it can be done without links. I do it all the time. No links but just good content. I don't link my sites other than to my other sites on occasions!

If all else fails I might try a couple of links, a couple being the operative word there. But I have never needed to yet!
