    I was wondering how you change the text that shows up when you type something into google. When someone types the keywords best custom computer into google my site is 2nd. I want to change the text that shows up though.

    I got hotchips.co.nz so I suspect I'm on a different data centre.

    Have a look at the text and see if you know where it is on your page. If it's the meta tags you can change them. If it's the DMOZ listing you can't (although there is supposedly a meta tag to reject the dmoz listing description). If it's in the body of your page then you can change that but you have little control over the speed that Google will pick up the change or even if it might backfire on you.

    It depends on what system is running your website. Notepad should do the trick though.

    if you have access to your files, you can do it easily. You can use Dreamweaver or simply open the file in notepad and make the changes. You will have to upload the changed file to your server. (Make sure you get the latest version from the server first)

    When you'll open the file, you'll see some tags near the top of the page like

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>
    <meta name="keywords" content="xxxxxxxxxxxxx" />
    <meta name="description" content="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" />
    <more tags here>
    </head>
    <body>
    <lots of tags here>
    </body>

    change the content in the meta tags from here.

    Hi. I just hecked your site and the code. Here it is:

    Since you know how to use dreamweaver, get the latest copy of the main page which you want to change and open it in Dreamweaver.

    If you see it in Design view, you should see a 'Title' field on top. You can easily change the title from there, or go in the design view and do it from there.

    Also, you can insert Meta keywords and Desciption by going to

    Insert >> HTML >> Head Tags >> Keywords
    Insert >> HTML >> Head Tags >> Description

    Alternately you can go to the code and change it from there.

    Also, just a short note.. the code I pasted above from your site has 2 titles. Please remove one of them. And also correct the Keywords and Meta Description as I just explained and shows in the very first example.

    Good Luck!

    Google likes to pull it's description from the Meta Description. You need to write a good description in that tag and it will show as your description when your page shows up in the SERPs. Use the posts by rosiee for a reference to find the Meta Description tag.

    Mix it up with popular and more specific terms too. You can use the digital point search term suggestion tool or use google adwords keyword tool.
