When I searched for a keyword in google adwords tool it is showing 130000 searches per month but when I search the same keyword in wordtracker keyword tool its only showing search results 2.I want to know which one of the above is true?
I am using exact results, its showing 130K searches per month, but wordtracker gives just 2 as search results.between I have searched for the same keyword myself over and over again,so how can that be mere 2,also I am sure that there are many people searching for that keyword
Hi Charlyms, I'm Mal and I work for Wordtracker Customer Support. Without knowing which seed word you're using, or the territory you're searching on, it's difficult for me to give a definitive answer on this, but I would say this: Wordtracker and the Google tool have different data sources, and because of this you'll see disparity in any of the results. Added to this, it's commonly accepted that the AdWords tool applies extrapolation to the search volume before presenting its numbers, but there's been no statement from them about either the size of their sample (it's not going to be a figure for all searches) or the extrapolation methods. You don't mention whether you're using the free tool or the full version of the Keyword Tool, but it's possible that while the search volume for that particular keyword is low, there may be other keywords in that niche with a higher count - sometimes it pays to tinker a bit with your seed words - for example if 'lawyer for doctor' has a low search count, one could try something like 'medical law', 'doctor legal services', etc. One of the advantages of using the full version is that you can enter multiple seed words (up to 500, depending on your settings) to get keyword suggestions. I hope this is of some help, but feel free to contact us on support@ if you have other questions - or you can PM me here. Good luck with your research, All the best, Mal
This was such a good idea of solving the problem. I think Its only because of those matches "Broad" and "Exact" would have not worked with you. But since both of them have different sources then how could both give the same search results.
i am using free google adwords keyword tool. The problem is I already selected the domain name for that keyword only to find that, the keyword do not appear for more than 2 searches in wordtracker, but some other keywords which was showing much less search volume in google adwords keyword tool is showing considerable amount of searches in wordtracker.Yes even I think google adwords tool actually displays results for both the two keywords for eg if I search "keyword1 keyword 2" in the adwords tool,it seems like it displays the results for both "keyword1" and "keyword2" and add it together and displays.I think thats an error from their part.Am I right. Is that why I see so much amount of search result for that keyword ie 130K and just 2 in wordtracker. Can someone suggest me some good keyword tool free or paid, dont matter, but I want the search results to be accurate, not like this.Apparently I wasted it for this domain misguided by the adwords tool. Now I need to build a different site using a different domain.Or can someone clearly explain about the process how both google adwords tool and wordtracker works? If someone could give me a suggestion of good accurate up to date keyword suggestion tool,it will be great.
Wordtracker gathers data from meta search engines, so the data source is completely different and less accurate, imho.
Neither they are both idiot bots that don't update properly in real time and give skewiff results that often mislead and misguide - but then we are idiot human beings as fallible as they are so who am I to caste aspertions LOL
Hi Charlyms, you're right about the Google AdWords tool - unless it's set to 'Exact Match', then 'keyword1 keyword2' will report searches containing 'keyword1' and 'keyword2' - and you'll see many more results in 'Broad Match' than 'Exact'. In terms of data sources, Wordtracker reports on just under 1% of US search, which is gathered from metacrawlers. It may be a small sample, but it's very clean - we have a 10-stage filtering process to remove spam and bot searches, and it is considered to be a representative sample. No keyword research tool will be able to give absolutely reliable results across all niches, but the competition data available in the paid Wordtracker tool can give an invaluable insight into how many pages are directly optimised for each keyword in our database. One quick note about real-time data: It's incredibly hard to produce accurate real-time information on search behaviour, but Wordtracker's US database is updated daily, and the search data is between 16 and 30 hours old when it hits the servers - it's not real-time, but it's pretty fresh, and can allow good insight into trending keywords. I hope this is helpful, but of course, do let me know if you have any other questions. Best, Mal
Hi There This is a really interesting conversation and addresses a problem I have stumbled across in the past two days! I am currently undertaking a massive keyword overhaul using my subscribed wordtracker. However after going on a crusade, deleting low search volumed words from my records, I decided to check my Google Analytics history. I looked up keywords for visits to my site in the last month and these visits indicate that wordtracker can't be right! To go one step further I starting digging around in our sales records which lead me to believe that Ananlytics is correct! For example, there is one search term that is very unique and the kind of thing if you were looking for it, you'd definately visit the site when you found it. We don't advertise this anywhere else so can only be found through internet. Well wordtracker say this has a search volume of 0, analytics say 32 people have visited my site after using this phrase, my sales data shows about 10-15 orders (different acc's, so indicating at least 10 searches) for the product related to this term, so it must have been searched on. How can that be, if wordtracker say 0...... For the record it isn't seasonal either, so it's not like wordtracker just hasn't caught up with the last couple of months of searches, it would be serached on all year round..... Help, it is not logical that we have received traffic and transactions for this search term when Wordtracker says it has a search record of 0............!
Word tracker isn't up to date for all key prhses. Sometiems they are as much as 3 months off. If you copy the results from wordtracker, and paste them into notepad, you will see some hidden information (shhh this is a secret, don't tell anyone), including the month the data was taken from.
Don't let it worry you seoconfused I often get visitors and conversions from what others and the softwares they rely on say are unsearched. What matters is that the search term worked for you and not what others or softwares say Sir A lot of people are also obsessed with highly searched terms and miss the bigger picture that more targeted long string terms can quite often convert much better and use far less resources to.
Hi there, here's my last word on this - there is huge value in using Keyword Research tools to find new traffic sources, but there's no keyword data source like your own analytics. Outside of that, all KR tools have different data sources, so will produce differing results. Seosplat - I read with considerable interest your comment about finding 'hidden data' by copying and pasting Wordtracker results - if you have an example of this, please feel free to mail me a copy - FAO Mal. In terms of timeliness, it's worth mentioning that Wordtracker's data is updated daily, and the data is between 16 and 30 hours old when it hits the servers and becomes available to users. Revelations-Decoder - you have an excellent point about which keywords bring traffic and which ones convert - that's definitely a word to the wise! All the best, Mal
