I started looking at the list from the very bottom up. The first one has no comments enabled. The second one tried to install Malware on my computer.
A lot of the .gov ones are unfortunately. I have heard that even though they are no follow, they are still strong backlinks b/c they are a .gov. I know I posted to one of them and it appeared as a backlink almost immediately. It also made me go up a couple of notches in the search engine. I think it is just one of those things that you gotta try to see if it works for you and your niche. While it may work for some niches it may not work for others.
But how come they be effective because they are no follow and Google consider no follow links as garbage??
Well, for one Yahoo and Bing don't pay attention to the whole nofollow/dofollow thing. I know that Google is king, but millions of people do search one these search engines as well. Also, I have read a lot of blogs and forum posts about the nofollow/dofollow situation. I have seen where some people say it is a myth, some people have said nofollow links help (especially .edu and .gov). There is tons of information out there. Do I believe it? I think it is just one of those things about Google we will never know. I try to post to as many dofollow blogs I can. Every marketer has their own thoughts about it. I feel that it really isn't right or wrong. Just do whatever you feel is right. The only way to really know is to test it. Google won't punish you if you have nofollow links. If that were the case then your competition could easily sabotage you by posting your link on various nofollow sites. I will say this. There is this niche I have been doing for a while. It isn't the make money online niche but it is competative. When I started out, I decided to go to backlinkwatch.com and other backlink sites and check out what my competition was doing. I was amazed at what I saw. Some of these people that were in the top spots had only got there by posting to other blogs (some do follow and some no follow). They also [posted to A LOT of .gov, .edu, .de, .uk, .org,.net) and various other types of domains (not just .com). Some of them hadn't written a single article. It was all just by posting backlinks to blogs using their keyword in anchor text. I thought surely it was a fluke and that they would be sandboxed in days. Some of these sites are still ranking in the top positions. You know the conclusion I have come to? A HUGE part of it is simply just having your keyword in anchor text pointing to your website.
