How Important is an E-mail from your Domain Name?

If you own a website, how important is it to have an e-mail address from your website (myname@mysite.com) as opposed to just a Gmail or Yahoo! account? I know that I take people much more seriously if I see they have a real e-mail from their domain, but it's so much easier to check e-mail online with an online account.

It really isnt that big of a deal. However, if you want to be able to easily check email from your hosted domain, try using Mozilla Thunderbird. They can easily integrate with most SMTP providers.

I just got the beta for Office 2010 actually, it's amazing! Outlook is so much nicer this time around than 2007, so I'm switching to this instead of Firebird.

I was just curious how businessmen look at users who run e-mails @live.com or @gmail.com

I know that when it comes to directory submission, most directory owners are looking for as it provides some authority.

As a customer, I would much rather talk to than

Plus I've learned that when e-mailing larger people who run big corporations, you look much more professional :)

I always use my gmail and i also notice that the majority of my customers use gmail. I have never got any questions from customers regarding the use of gmail - and gmail is actually an excellent tool.

And you can always find a good gmail account like: yourcompany@gmail.com

But i guess it might provide some authority to use your domain name in your email if you deal with bigger corporations.

Sending email from personalized emails, like one from your own domain, is considered far more authenticated as sending emails from free email service providers. It totally depends upon the task for which you are using them.

Not important, but a question of credibility.

I think its very important. When I see someone running a business, and their using hotmail or gmail, the first thing I think of is how cheap or lazy their are not to create an email address with their company name.

If your going to act like a professional, and have a website, then create yourself an email address with your website name. It only takes a few minutes to set things up.

my 2 cents... it may help.. but the value is minuscule... they really do not care much.. unless you are dealing with pros, web masters... most people do not know the difference... many of them still think "AOL IS THE INTERNET"...

I agree with expertofexperts. Yes it totally depends on the task. If you are serious in getting an email with domain name, Google also offers it! Of course you need to have a live website for that!

    Hi Dude,
It has more importance to have your EmailID on your Domain name.
Few sites reject free hosting(gmail, yahoo etc.).If you give your EmailID to some one and it is on your domain name then your get better response.
