Hi I have a new blog http://eharveydomelbourne.blogspot.com/ and was just wondering what you guys suggest the best way to market it is. We're just doing a sort of fun blog so nothing really hardcore serious. Its a guide to Melbourne and our experiences of it so kind of specific demographic but then again, a few of my friends overseas like hearing about it. Anyways what do you guys reckon?

I think your blog is not working.

Hi, my suggestion is to distribute a business card to everyone you get to meet, which the only thing will be written on it, is the website in a powerful colour that will draw everyone's attention.
    Worth to try... goodluck!

I would suggest get your own domain name. They are very cheap and allow you to have full control over your site. In the long run it will be better.

I would link it up to a twitter account - but you'll need to host it yourself

The twitter idea is a good one. Maybe create funny, unique tweets that would get people to visit the site instead of "this restaurant is awesome" or "You'll love this tourist attraction".

Use social networking sites to promote your blog.

You can also use the Twitter search function to find relevant people and create an appropriate background

Add in a plugin that posts your tweets on your blog and/or blog posts on your twitter account and it soon should build nicely

Each blog should target different demographics - appeal to teenagers up to pensioners but do so with a separate blog for each age group. Then target different locations with prospective visitors - start with US, then UK, then Canada then target different states, cities and large populations. Target different professions - teachers and lecturers are good as they have long holidays. Then Events and Activities. A restaurant guide is always appreciated. Hotels, B&Bs, backpackers, temporary jobs,

Everybody seems to start wit a black background blog but there is much study to show that they don't work as well as white backgrounds.

If you want to earn from adsense or increase your traffic post link articles on adsense sharing sites - these don't claim your copyright but drive traffic really well. The best (in my opinion) is in my signature link. Also Hub and a new one which is sending good traffic is SnipSly.com

PS celebrity gossip always attracts traffic - Kylie Minogue is gold still
