{some_country_name}.mobi... What do you think?

    Hello,

Someone I know offered to sell a domain name to me, it's a .mobi and a country name, something like france.mobi, canada.mobi...

Do you think $4000 to $6000 is a good price for such domains?

p.s, People in my country use WAP and we lack good local mobile services.

    Please advice.

    Thanks

Not really. Personally I wouldn't put any money into .mobi but that's me. I would consider a good deal for a decent country.mobi for $xxx, but it would be highly unlikely that people would sell a GEO for that price.

Well actually it depends on the country. If it is usa.mobi it will worth that much but if it is SaintVincentandtheGrenadines.mobi (no offense :D) it won't. But of course as htmlindex said above .mobi domains don't worth a lot in most cases.

If you see a potential on that domain with that country or if you are planning to develop it, you may consider buying it. Good luck.

Important Edit: By the way, I think you are missing an important point. For example if it is Italy()mobi, it won't be a good investment as Italian people don't call their country as "Italy" they call it with its original name which is "Italia" or for example my country Turkey, we don't call it with that animal's name :)mad:), it's original is "Türkiye", Germans call their country as "Deutschland", Spanish people call it as "España"... So if you buy Italy()mobi, local people probably won't use it and rest of the world probably won't care about it. Maybe you can develop it as a travel or informational site for the rest of the world but I don't think that you can monetize it a lot.

    Thanks everyone

@talvehtia, I used the official country name not the English name

As most of you said It an investment, but mobi still didn't prove they are worth a high investment

    Thanks again

No domain that is not top level is worth that much money. Even handheld device users still type .com first before anything else. The .mobi thing is not really that popular and probably never will be.

It is a cool domain name, no doubt, but the price is a bit steep I think. The thing that threw me off was the vagueness of the name when you said "or something like that"... It sounds like a con job to me from the start. I would be really skeptical about it for that kind of money.
