This question seems to have been answered very well by debate between Canonical and stephenc, from what I can say from my experience is that, Google tends to ignore meta keywords for ranking. The meta description sometimes appears in google search results, sometimes it doesnt. Google determines whether to show the meta description as part of the serp, based on its own internal algorithm about which we dont know much about.

Now a days meta tags are not considered by google. Google considers only meta title.

 

IMO, meta desc may or may not hav an impact on SERPs but it can surely help with relevancy score...its a pretty good place to use your keywords.

 

meta tags I think are ignored now... they are not indexed by google spiders anymore.
