www.junkegg.com - "HIT" or "MISS"???

Hi guys,

www.junkegg.com is a new site alternative to eBay and Craigs list.

Can you guys check it out and see if this will be a "Hit" or "Miss" with the public.

If "Miss" - if you can provide a quick sentence why?

Homepage/overall
-Name sounds like newegg
-Huge Letters Screaming at you!!!
-16 image links on the bottom of the main page? Too many, put them all in one separate page.
-The 'beta' on the logo sounds cool and hip - but not what you want when you're sending credit card information through.

Auction page
-"There aren't questions yet" - you mean "There aren't any questions yet"
-"Questions and answers of this listing" - you could just put "Questions and Answers"
-"Offers of this listing" - just put "Offers"
-"There aren't offers yet" - you mean "There aren't any offers yet"

Search
-Your search does not look for words. So a search for "car" will have "Cards" come up. A search for a space will have every single auction with a space in the title come up. I'm willing to bet that's most of them
-Search Result should be Search Results

Buy it now/ Bidding
-I really don't like the gray button with dollars on it for buy it now. Make it something with more words and less abstract. I had no idea what it did until I clicked it.
-"To bid you must be registered." should be "You must be registered to bid"

I'll use whatever browser I want, thank you. This reminds me of the geocities days: "Use IE 5.0 and 800x600 screen resolution". Your website is not important enough to make users switch.




Honestly, it seems like you have a good idea, but need to make your site less spammy for people to really like it.


I guess this is slightly more than a sentence. Oh well.

Dear god, the homepage is terrible! It hurts my eyes and my hands instinctively went to hit the key combination to close the tab...

"JunkEgg Proud Partners" -- these are CJ affiliate links, yes? If so, I'd remove 'Proud Partners' and change it something else. Otherwise, you're misleading consumers to believe that these companies are somehow partnered with your website.

Do everything that kemus suggested... right now.

I hope you're incorporated as an LCC, otherwise you'll get in trouble for that. Which, by the way, if you're profiting from this site, you better be incorporated or at least filing as a Sole Proprietor.

A video on the homepage branded with the YouTube video? Looks tacky!
Can't you upload it to your own server and stream it from there?

Make those logos at the very bottom smaller, or at least arrange them better. Honestly, though, nobody really cares if you are 'strategically partnered' with Earth Technology or whatever. Fill that space with more important things.

Center the navigation bar - or at least size the buttons better. Make them brighter or something, too.

 

My only concern is why?

Why would someone chose to use your site as apposed to ebay or craiglist?

Just because it is 'new' is not a reason.

What can you do that ebay and craiglist cannot?

 

Nice idea, just needs a good designer to sort a few issues out as listed above.

Also, try and fill the TOP header with a bigger logo etc. The centered logo is terrible
