    Hello Friends

I have a large background image in a site.
I wanted to know if .JPEG or .GIF is the best.

    Thanks

Png would be my suggestion. But then I have to ask why you are going to have a background image on a site. It sounds as though you are using a big image. You should avoid this.

I use both for different purpose. gif for small graphic/colors, jpeg for large photo and png for graphic that need to be transparent.

Well, this all depends on what your needed purpose is. If you want a high quality image use a JPEG, if you a animated image go for a .GIF, although .gif tend to be worse quality.

.JPEG is the best choice in general. The quality is ok, the size is small enough

.GIF is mainly used for animated images.

Well, both GIF and JPEG have equal importance but in GIF we have no issue of memory however in JPEG, we may restrict some information...
