Buying Simple 301 redirect

I'm trying to redirect one website to another, I'm using Dreamhost which has an automatic redirect on its control panel (not cPanel) but it's only redirecting pages in sub directories of the original site to new subdirectories on the new site that are showing 404 errors.

I want every page on the old site to 301 redirect to just the homepage on the new site.

I'm sure this is simple for someone here to do. Anyone able to do this? I'm sure it's quite quick.

Hi, you can do it better by full dns control of your old domain name. Regards

For this to work you will need to edit the .htaccess file on your server.
Please PM me with your offer for me for me to do this for you.

    Thanks.

I've tried editing the .htaccess file but nothing works, I have tried every redirect code I can find but it never redirects to the homepage of the new site, it always creates a directory on the new site which matches the directory on the old site and comes up with a 404 error.

If you want to redirect entire site, then it is best to dns redirect which has nothing with host, you can do that in your domain register control panel. And i know most of domain registars support that function.

You really tried my .htaccess solution I pmed you? Because that has to work (if your web is on apache and htaccess alowed) - maybe you need to check subdirectories, if there are no other .htaccess presenting.
