What exactly does Web 2.0 consists of and what are the advantages of using Web 2.0??

The basic difference is that web 1.0 was based on static web pages while web 2.0 is based on dynamic web pages.

 

The easy way to tell, you can create your own page on web 2.0, for example blogger.com - You can create your own blog, hubpages.com - You can create your own hub, it's really that simple if you just want to be able to tell, if you want to know exactly what makes a website web 2.0, not web 1.0 - Then that's another story.

 

So web 2.0 is anything website sharing information?

 

Sort of dude but we already had that, so web 2.0 is just another of those bandwagon buzzwords for everyone to make themselves look smarter than the next Joe

 

Very well said. A good example of web 2.0 properties is sites like blogger, weebly, hubpages, and squidoo.

Web 2.0 site means site that allows user-generated content in some form or the other. Such as like a free blog hosting site, a free wiki site or some form in participation in the form of status updates etc (like facebook).

web 2.0 is the web application.. Is the use of world wide web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. These concepts have led to the development and evolution of web based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites and blogs.

 

And what is Youtube / Twitter kinda advanced applications, is it web 3.0 ? Picasa, Facebook, where it will be count , in web 4.0 ?

 

I think all those sites are Web 2.0 if you re-read the description of Web 2.0 that I gave above and also below;

So interactive information sharing (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube), interoperability (being able to connect some sites with your Facebook, Twitter accounts), user-centered design and collaboration (again all those sites).

There is no such thing as Web 4.0, 5.0 yet (at least commonly accepted, and according to Wikipedia -> 1, 2) and I think you guys are thinking it like softwares with new versions but it is actually not working like that. Web 2.0 is just a description of current Web trends.

Also there is something called Web 3.0;

Which I think really not a new thing, it is just about turning those sites into a more profitable business.
