Twitter is nofollow so it doesn't give you any backlinks. But it gives some traffic which is worth a lot too IMO

Apparently Twitter can be a good place to generate traffic, but there is no SEO value in the links.

 

Unless you see it the other way around..

1. You tweet your content
2. People like your content and place it on websites
3. People build links for you

But I guess the OP meant something else

 

Yeah, good tweets gets re-tweeted on other sides (that are do follow) and these become backlinks. Thinking a little outside the box helps!

twitter counts.... BIG TIME

they have algorithms in place that looks at your links, how often you tweet, how many followers, and how many people follow you.

The higher ratio of followers you have, the higher importance or ranking your tweets are, and this how much more authority you have over other twitter users

higher ratio of followers = followers/people you follow (example - 10k followers, and how you follow 22 people)

They also look at the high ratio followers that follow you

so you could have 10 followers, but all 10 of those followers are power users (celebs that are verified for instance), you would have a high score for quality tweets.

They have other factors like join date, how often you tweet, and how many times you share links. A big no no is using #hashtags. This is TERRIBLE, and accounts that use hashtags will hold little to any rankings

Exactly. But you need an awesome website for that, with a big userbase or a lot of luck IMO

It takes so much time to do this all by yourself, so the big ones once again get much more attention so they get bigger again. It's like the rich that are getting richer and the poor just staying at their position

 

you can add value to your tweets by interconnecting it to do follow microblogginging platforms like identi.ca, etc.

 

Twitter is not applicable when it comes to to building backlinks for it is no follow but it can be used to gain traffic by releasing tweets about your content and updates to your blog/site. This can be a great way of generating attention if you have a large quantity of followers.

 

The reason its important (and more important than backlinks) is b/c of real time search

if you have the best site in the world that talks about shampoo, but a few power users on twitter post a link to a shampoo commercial they will appear first in google because real time search is more relevant than a webpage thats been running for years. Google will show these links first.

 

Well do, you really believe in no-follow versus do-follow? I've seen more then 1 study proving that you can be ranked with only no-follow links.

Twitter can provide incredibly valuable backlinks. For example I have about 830 followers, but have a PR 5 Twitter home page. That's a great link to be able to have.

i dont think twitter can be useful in getting backlink the only thing we can do is flooding and if you have followers from same niche/ category related to your twitts than and than its worth else its like wasting of time. i have learn couple of trick for making fast follower and all but its not worth until unless you dont target the traffic. I am using one of the twitter follower train to increase my followers but end of day its all nothing more than simple promotion.

 

Never thought of it that way. But I guess you have to build a large following before you start seeing any result? Might be worth looking into. Thanks
