of course it affects ranking, if you have an outbound link with porn, it has possibility that your site will harm.

If you consistantly link out to trusted, authoritative sites instead of cheap, unknown, non-authoritative, sometimes spammy sites... it can help to increase your site's domain trust. Of course, domain trust is only 1 of some 200+ ranking factors so the affects are going to be minimal at best. You may not even notice a difference in rankings.

But it's good for your user's experience to link out to great resources. So it is always a good idea to do so IMO.

Of course as the previous poster indicated, linking out to a bad neighborhood site with a followed link "can" get your site penalized.

Sometimes if you are linking to 'bad neighborhoods' or 'spam' sites from your site then Google may penalize you. Apart from that, as long as you have less than 100 outbound links on a page, there wont be any visible effect on site ranking.

Links to other websites can have a negative effect on your website if you don’t monitor to which websites you link. Google recommends not to have more than 100 links per web page. Too many links on one page confuse your website visitors.

    Best policy is this.

Try to minimise the number of outgoing links you give.
Aim to maximise the number of incoming links you get, particularly from reputable, on topic websites.

    Good tip is this.

Avoid the sheep mentality & behaviour. Wherever the masses are advocating, go the opposite way.

While it doesn't directly affect your actual google rank, it does have a comparable effect. Basically the more outbound links you have, the lower the value for each link on that page. This means that the links you have on your main page that link to the other pages of your site now have less weight, lowering the page rank of all of the other pages on your site. So yes, outbound links are not what you want.
