Hey guys, I'm fairly new here but I've been a lurker for some time. I have a suggestion. You know how some sites such as digg have a mobile version? m.digg.com and same for google. Why not have a mobile version for DP? I know it might take a while to implement and it might even cost alot. I often surf the web with my smartphone and it would be nice of i could skip loading the "fat" that a 19 inch monitor can take. Right now, it seems that sites optimized for mobile devices are a luxury much similar to most things new (such as high speed internet way back when).

I also make the argument in favor of a mobile forum considering the demographic. I think we all can agree that most people here are somewhat tech savy and quite a few of use own smart phones. To me, it just makes sense.

This would be a great idea IMO... I use my Android all the time to browse on DP, though it seems to run the site fairly well as it is, it would still be a great addition.

I dunno if it would really be necessary because can't most phones just view regular websites now such as the iphone and it all looks good? What does having a mobile version do exactly ? Just have everything smaller so it takes less time to load or something ?

Yep, and it sucks having to scroll, zoom in, zoom out, then scroll again. I find the styleid=3 handy when I'm using my iPhone, though it lacks some functionality it should do the trick.

    thanks. This link helps alot!

@TimothyJohn, a mobile version helps eliminate screen clutter. The web page leads fine in most 3G networks but like Dondon2d said, it's a hassle to scroll, zoom, and pan. Especially when there are ad blocks that takes 75% of your small screen.

This is so true LOL. If ever, just if ever, you want to switch to the original version (for whatever reason, like viewing signature etc etc) just use styleid=1 or 2 :)

I use OperaMini 4.2 and keep the "Mobile view" option selected. No need to zoom, and it's good enough experience for me at least.

Something like a forum here is pretty ez to navigate on my droid eris imo. But how killer would some Android apps for dp b such as a widget showing recent replies to subscribed threads and stuff.

I posted a suggestion to add an android section to the Google category for App developers and people wanting to set up Android optimized versions of their sites as well as.for general Android discussion. So far the comments I got were pretty negative.to the id3a. One guy said this is a webmaster forum not a gadget forum lol. Like webmasters shouldn't worry about a growing number of users who use this platform.

Mobile for Android would be awesome. The android will surpass the Iphone in sales. We are already catching up in such a short time.

If the owner is an apple man I doubt we will see a mobile version of dp for Android. The droid has so much potential and isn't limited like the Iphone.

I'm not so sure they r interested in suggestions here. Jhmattern The moderator said in my suggestion thread about adding an Android section that it would b considered if there was interest in but then closed the thread. I'm a little confused as to how people can express interest in a closed thread. I think she simply doesn't like the idea herself interest from other members b damned. There were no tos violations in the thread so I found it kind of rude to myself as the op and to anyone else that might have had interest in the suggestion. She has the right to do what she wants and that's fine but its clear that she doesn't like the idea and doesn't want a discussion on it. Sorry Android people but it seems we r not welcome to discuss things in dp.
