Directory scripts, what would you like to see?

I'm wondering, what features would you like an imaginary new directory script to have, which you haven't found anywhere yet?

A traffic module would be nice.
You define how many real visitors you want per day - and they come.

Tell me when this feature is active and you've got yourself your first paying customer for this script.

You mean where they click on a category and then use the search feature to search within that category?

The most important thing for me is a user friendly admin panel. That's the main reason I have decided to use Esyndicat. Two of the things I haven't found are flexibility on how you can create sponsored plans and how you are going to get paid and a plugin and theme system similar to wordpress would be great.
Also custom rewrite rules configurable from the admin panel, an import export function from other directory scripts would be a huge plus, easy and SECURE database backups from the admin panel are just a few that come in mind.

    Not really blogmaster.

More of a search for a category to submit a site to.

E.g. You have a pet website, you search for a category with the keyword "animals". A list of categories is then displayed, the user then can select the most approriate to submit to.

    I'm considering starting a directory.

I would like to see an option in admin panel where you could write content that is displayed at top, and or bottom, of each category. Different content for each category. This would make a phpld directory more unique as far as SE bots see them. Instead of just seeing the same lists of categories and sub categories that gets seen in most directories.

Better documentation of what features they already have.

When people develop and share mods in the user forums that are proven to work, add them to that documentation - CONSISTANTLY.

OK, I know those aren't features; but they sure would make my life easier.

    As to features:

I think it should be standard practice for every script to have suggest a category only embedded within suggest a site. I'm really not interested in adding a category just because a site visitor asked for one without suggesting a site that should be listed in it. If, on the other hand, a submittor thinks their site should be in a different category; I would want them to suggest it at the same time they submit their site.

I like the idea of a search feature to search the category names.

    A couple of things:

A Much better search feature. Such as advanced searches. Categories, links, site, etc...

A more comprehensive admin section that allows for additional page creation, such as contact pages, privacy, etc...

The ability to comment on links, and allow link submitters to provide much more content, such as a review of the site.

I'd like an option for submitters to be able to say where they heard about the directory, also an integral sitewide link submission.
