Micro Niche finder - How is the SOC calculated?

I don't know if you already know this trick.

Micro Niche finder has one cool feature: SOC or Strength Of Competition.

This SOC parameter is a simple number. If it is below 50 it is colored green which means weak competition and little effort needed to rank high for this keyword. Higher SOC values mean more effort needed for top ranking.

If you click this SOC number you get three additional parameters: inanchor count, intitile count and inurl count. These three parameters are directly related to Google search operators, in fact they are exactly the operators used in the search query. This way you get the number of pages where your target keyword in present in the anchor text of some link, in the title of the page or in the URL.

The question is how is the Strength of Competition parameter calculated?

Here is the secret formula: the SOC parameter is the intersection of the pages with all three search operators. Simple as that. In other words, the Strength Of Parameter number as displayed in MNF is the number of pages that have the target keyword at the same time in page title, in url and in anchor text. The MNF searches up to 1000 results. Here is the actual query example for the "long domain name" keyword:

    http://www.google.com/search?num=10...rl:"long+domain+name"&start=900&sa=N&filter=0

This might be useful for those who have Market Samurai or no keyword analysis tool at all and need quick evaluation of the competition.

What is better, Micro Niche Finder or Market Samurai + this trick?

I use both of them :)

This is great info... I can tell you that I have ranked very well with many keywords that had a very high SOC. So I am not sure how much weight I put on it...

I ran a few tests and the resulting numbers from Google were different than the SOC's from MNF.

I wonder if MNF has changed their algorithm?

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info.

So far i'm just stick to the KEI concept and i got few sites with homepage ranked at the top 3 of Google's first page.

Based on this result, i believed KEI concert is still very much relevant with today's situation.

    Cheers..

    Wow, its amazing.
I use MNF for a long time and know nothing about how it calculated.

Maybe I'll try to use Market Samurai.
But for now Micro Niche Finder is the best for me.

    Hi, funa

Thanks for sharing these wonderful tricks.

One question, will that mean if I search any keyword using the search query you have given and the results is less than 1000, the competition is weak?
