How do i create my own Joomla templates?

I am in a search to find as much usable information for creating my own templates for Joomla.

What are the best places to start retrieving information from specifcly related to creating your own template?
And what would the best approach be?

P.S. I am not an expert when it comes to CSS/HTML/XHTML so any information targetting novices would be very helpfull.

one thing that you might want to know is that tableless templates don't work as Joomla/Mambo uses tables for everything

 

Use Dreamweaver, and install extention for Jomla/Mambo template

I followed the instructions but i don't see any new toolbar/buttons appearing.
