    As with many of these sites, they allow people to do this because they expect people to have good intentions. There's nothing wrong with building a profile, putting a link to your website in it and promoting the profile with backlinks. The problem emerges when people stuff the hell out of the profile with crap links and leave the rest of the profile blank.

    So sites like this allow people to put links in their profile and then when they are fed up with the spam they either delete the offending profiles or change all the links to nofollow.

    The problem with sharing information on forums like this is that some people show absolutely no restraint and push the boundaries way too far, thus spoiling it for everyone else.
