i think keywords have to be unique. but many site give the same service, function or product. so many keywords seem to be unique but they are repetitive to use. i created a site to introduce a WEB HOSTING, FTP SERVICE site, the keywords is ftp service, web hosting. but many sites have the same keywords, so i cant search the site.
do you think that the keywords are useful now?

What you mentioned are competitive keywords. It'll take years for you to get on top (unless you are there already). What you need to target are less competitive but still more or less popular keywords (like 'city hosting' or 'town hosting', etc).

Keywords are not dead, you just need to do keyword research right.

You need to be more specific with your keywords. Just using 'Web Hosting' as your keyword won't help as it's an over saturated keyword. Choose more targetted keywords according to services you offer like for eg. dedicated server hosting, reseller hosting, UK web hosting etc.

    imo NOT.

because big giants are working on these general keywords for many years and you cannot beat them before many years of your work with condition that in these years they work less on these keywords (which is not likely).

but with the passage of time niches within niches have be emerged which are equally profitable so you can dig your niche from big niche. :)

Its about finding a way to differentiate your offering from all the others. Maybe try something a little less competitive.
