Selling 4x RuneScape Classic Domains - Online game, close community, no major competing sites

RuneScape Classic (RSC) is the original version of the worlds largest free online game according to Guinness World Records - RuneScape. RuneScape has around 10 million active players every month, according to Wikipedia. The game has put its founders, Andrew and Paul Gower, high up on the Forbes 'Richest people in the United Kingdom' list.

Since March 2004, the new version of the game (back then known as 'RuneScape 2', now simply called 'RuneScape') has been the main game. And since then, whilst RS2 thrived and was updated every day, RSC has been abandoned despite the many people who preferred it to the newer version. And due to the lack of management, the amount of people using bots to automatically improve their accounts has skyrocketed. To try and combat this, RSC was made exclusive to paying members only in August 2005. Then in January 2006, it was made available only to those who had played in the past 6 months. This left merely a few hundred active players, an amount that slowly decreased... until recently.

Around October 2009, the remaining active players (myself included) started to notice some minor changes to the game. Then all bots completely stopped working suddenly. Then in November 2009 Jagex, the company that runs RuneScape, announced that RuneScape Classic had been opened to new players for the first time in almost 4 years. Everybody was given a two week period to log into the game. This brought all the old players as well as a few new faces. Jagex also said that they will open up the game to new players again in 'six months', which would be about 4 months from now.

If you've heard of RuneScape before, you may know that it has a terrible community full of annoying 10 year olds. The same does NOT apply to the classic version of the game. Before 2004 almost all players were well-behaved, when the 'stupid generation' kids were still being born I suppose. This has carried on over the years, particularly now that most of the original players are over 18.

Here are some pictures of RuneScape Classic:

RuneScape Classic has a mature and close community - everybody knows somebody who can make this or fish for that or lend you this, etc. And yet, there is no major forum for the game aside from the official where these people can socialize. And the official forums only recently implemented the avatars feature - a primary feature that should be expected from any forum. And there are no signatures, the forum is hard to navigate, moderation is little because they focus on RunesScape 2, there is only one skin and it's quite basic.. and this is just the start of the many problems with the official RSC forums.

But the only alternatives are basic, inactive, freely hosted forums on websites like InvisionFree. A few of the major RuneScape 2 forums have a category for RuneScape Classic but they suffer from similar problems because it's a RuneScape 2 forum! A simple installation of a forum software like phpBB, SMF, vBulletin or IPB onto these domains would not only delight the players but, with a little advertising, instantly gather a lot of members. Follow it up with an official clan (just elect a good person to run it, a moderator is a good choice) and a donate button, perhaps even an official radio or podcast, and you're looking at a popular, mature and friendly community that can make you money! By the time the big RS2 websites catch on and try to suck your community in, you will have strong foundations and they will not have a chance!

So if you want to take this opportunity, one that I have had to pass on because I have other commitments - then you can take the domains for just $18 USD. That's $7 less than what I paid for them, and that was through a special deal at GoDaddy - usually it would have cost more. The domains are:

    RSCFORUMS.COM
    RSCFORUMS.NET
    RSCFORUMS.ORG
    RSCFORUMS.INFO

All registered on 13th November 2009.
All will expire on 13th November 2010.
    All registered at GoDaddy.

For reference, some of the big RuneScape 2 websites:

    ZYBEZ.NET
    RUNESCAPECOMMUNITY.COM (PART OF ZYBEZ)
    TIP.IT
    RUNEHQ.COM

And the official RuneScape website and company website:

    RUNESCAPE.COM
    JAGEX.COM

    PayPal only. Thanks.
