Dear DP members, Are you convinced with the effectiveness of Google Alerts? Do you use them all the times in watching on competitors including improving and building your web content? Someone told me that Google Alerts is sensible to sign up for, but is actually patchy in terms of service. Do you agree? What do you think guys? You may also recommend other similar resources that you find more helpful.
google alert is fine as a free tool. not only people use it for getting alerts on certain topics and search terms, lot of online business owners use it for reputation management. you can setup google alert with your site name, brand name, domain name, your own name, etc and get notified every time people talk about your or your site/business. if positive then all the best, but if negetive, you can respond to false claims or negetive comments to maintain goodwil
Google alert is very helpful for site or topic updates. Most ideas for the contents I write came from it.
Additionally, through Google Alerts, we could have email updates about the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.
I have Google Alerts set up for my name, company name and keywords. It helps me to find potential affiliates, places for links and perhaps most importantly, helps me to know when someone is stealing my content (which is more common then you might think). Maybe it doesn't work perfectly, but I haven't found anything else that comes close!
Google Alerts is another way Google cleverly spread Google Adwords links by - for all intents and purposes - bypassing adsense users whilst they supply a service useful for webmasters and website owners so said site owners (admins) can monitor their chosen search terms that they choose to monitor. When you get a Google Alert - does it not occur to you the link included is an AdWords link? Unless you are paying AdWords it is unlikely the link will be your link even if you are number 1 in the natural/organic search results. If you are one of those unfortunate enough to have to resort to using Adwords rather than getting high ranked SERPS you may not know this. Google Alerts is like a contradiction in terms to the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button and a way of sneakily getting Adwords clicks that Google utilises by providing a service you might find useful. If you find your own AdWords link in a Google Alert and you also use AdSense beware of clicking the link therein is my advice!
I'm new to this... I haven't tried it yet, I just tried it while reading this thread and I'll see what will happen. It say that I'll wait for emails...
