Two examples I can think of off the top of my head where linkbaiting was the primary link building method that resulted in a crapload of revenue and millions of unique visitors over a matter of months:

1. WhateverLife.com - Ashley Qualls was one of the first creators of a myspace layouts website. Her layouts were well designed, valuable to millions of teenagers, and as a result she got 99% of her links from news websites and fans without ever having to do much else. At the time her site began to take off, she didn't know much of anything about SEO. Ashey received offers of well over $1 million from potential buyers who wanted her site, as I understand it.

2. Mingle2.com - Matt Inman designed and created a free dating site. How did he promote it? He created linkbait in the form of fun and hilarious quizzes that people linked to relating to dating. Here are some examples. At the end of each quiz the quiztaker could copy and paste the HTML code with their score in it (and a link back to Matt's dating site) to share it with friends. Sure enough, thousands of people did this and Matt watched the traffic sky rocket. About 6 months after creating and releasing the site, Mingle2 was receiving well over 700,000 uniques per month.

Now trying replicating those results with forum posting, article submissions, directory submissions, etc...it's simply not going to happen. These examples prove why content and link bait is the #1 method for building links. Problem is, most people simply can't pull it off successfully. They are missing the patience, lack the creativity, or simply don't have the ingenuity to create original, valuable content. Trust me, its easier said then done. If it weren't we'd all be millionaires!

In my view if you help people by answering there questions on forums and make your website to help visitors instead of for seo your ranking will increase automatically

 

If the commenter has a relevant, insightful comment and a relevant website to share then I doubt Google will penalize it. There is a difference between comment spam and useful comments. After all, if all comments were spam why would bloggers enable them, and why would some enable do follow comments? Now if your leaving tons of spammy comments using automated software then I can see how it might raise a red flag for Google. Is it one of the best link building methods....no, definitely not. However, it does have some applications in the SEO world.

the only problem i encounter on comment posting is the owner deleted the comment, even if it is a useful comment.
